If for any reason the application can't connect to the EJS OnSite FTP Server to download the latest installation files,
it is also possible to manually download and update to the latest version, by running the new Installation Program directly
from this web site. Click here to Download and Run the Installation package for EJS OnSite.
If you click on that link, your web browser might show a dialog asking you if you want to "Save"
or "Run" the program. We recommend clicking on "Run" to avoid possible
confusion while trying to locate the file later. If you select "Save" instead, make sure that you
remember where and under what name the file was saved!
The file will then be downloaded, showing a dialog similar to the following:
After the download is complete, the program will automatically start if you have selected "Run".
If you have selected "Save", you need to start the program manually by double-clicking on its icon
in "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer", or by using the
"Run" option from the "Windows Start Menu". You can also start the
program from a "Command Prompt".
If you chose to "Run", you may also receive the following Web Browser warning dialog
(on Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003), on which you have
to select "Run" again.
Alternatively, you may receive the following UAC (User Access Control) warning dialog (on Windows Vista,
Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008), on which you would have to select
"Yes" instead.
When started, the self-extracting zip archive program will show the following dialog:
If you select "OK", the program's main dialog will be shown. Here you can select the target
location for the installation files, which by default will be the "C:\EJS_Temp\" directory, but
virtually any accessible file location can be selected. The specified directory will be created, if it doesn't already exist.
If you select "Extract", all the necessary runtime files and the EJS OnSite Install program are
extracted and the Install program is automatically started.
If the new Install program is also unable to connect to the EJS OnSite FTP Server or can't download the latest installation
files, then those three required files might also be manually downloaded from this web site. As this will be a complete download,
rather than an incremental one, it will take a little longer than using the Install program.
To download the files, right-click on each of the following three links and select "Save Target As..."
from the popup menu. Save all three files with their original file names to the same directory where the installation program
files were extracted to, which by default will be the "C:\EJS_Temp\" directory, replacing and
overwriting any possibly existing files with the same name in that directory:
Installation Runtime Files ("NewDDP.zip" about 7 MB).
Complete Installation Package ("DDPWin.zip" about 85 MB).
Verification Database ("FileList.dbf" about 85 kB).
After all the files have been downloaded, the Install program can be used to update the EJS OnSite application to the
latest version. To manually do this, select from the Main Menu: "Update" →
"Update existing EJS OnSite application to: "Version 4.3 Windows"". This will
bring up the following setup dialog, which must be filled out with the appropriate settings for the current workstation.
The first field, labeled "EJS OnSite Path:", specifies the main directory of the EJS OnSite
application and is by default "C:\DDPWIN\", but could be a different location on a different
drive, like "F:\POLICE\DDPWIN\", etc. The second field, labeled
"Workstation Path:", specifies the startup directory (with the valid
"UserParm.dbf" database) for the current Workstation. By default this will be shown as the Install
program's startup directory, which would be (for manual Version Updates) the "C:\EJS_TEST\" directory.
This field is automatically updated, whenever the EJS OnSite Path field is changed. To determine the correct Workstation Path,
you can copy and paste the value from the "Start In:" value of the EJS OnSite (or DDP Police Science)
application's shortcut. This value can be found by right-clicking on the application's Icon on your Desktop, and selecting
the last menu option from the popup menu, labeled "Properties". This will display the Shortcut
Properties dialog, which could look similar to this:
In the above case, the correct value for the "Workstation Path:" field would be:
"F:\DDPWIN\USERS\004\" as outlined by the red box. After copying the value from the
"Start In:" field, the Properties dialog can be closed. With the correct values entered or
pasted into the appropriate fields (based on the above shortcut) the Version Update Dialog would look
like this:
Selecting the "Start" button will now begin the Update Process,
which is described in more detail here.
